Where to Start with Guitar Music Theory
Guitar music theory becomes useful when it explains something you can hear and play. Start by learning the notes on the fretboard, then the intervals between them. Those two ideas make scales, chord construction and keys much easier to understand.
Work through the lessons in short sessions: read one idea, find it on the guitar, then use the tools to hear or practise it. You do not need to memorise everything before moving on; revisit each topic as your playing gives it more context.
How to Use the Site
The site does not need to be read in sequential order. The tools are designed to be used completely independently, so you can explore and practice with them at any time. Individual lessons can also be read in any order, though it is recommended to cover the basics first so you understand some of the more advanced material.
What This Site Is For
The purpose of this site is not to provide a comprehensive breakdown of musical theory. For that, there is no better alternative than formal musical education or private tuition. What this site aims to do is educate guitarists so they can communicate musical ideas more accurately, manage their time more effectively, and give themselves the tools to improve independently.
Who This Site Is For
While this site is aimed at all players, this is not a "learn how to play" guide. I assume at the very least you know how to hold your guitar, are familiar with the names for the parts of the guitar, and can play a few basic chords. That said, even absolute beginners can find practical value in the exercises and interactive tools available here. I have tried to balance the content so it is approachable for beginners while still detailed enough to remain engaging for more advanced players.
How to Improve Quickly
The important thing to remember is that how quickly you develop is not equivalent to the amount of time you can afford to play, but rather what you do with the time you have, as well as your attitude toward learning.
If you make the effort to play between 10 and 20 minutes every day using the exercises or tools listed, most players will see noticeable improvements in technique, fretboard understanding, and basic songwriting.
